The Cross of the Society
In 1855, Father Charles Lowder, the founder of S. Peter's London Docks founded, with five other priests of the Church of England, the Society of the Holy Cross, known as SSC from the initials of the Latin name, Societas Sanctae Crucis.
The first object of the Society was to maintain and extend Catholic faith and discipline and form a special bond of union between Catholic priests.
There are now some nine hundred members of the society, working in Enland, Scotland, Wales, the USA, Canada and Australia. They are dedicated to their original vision of Catholic faith and priestly discipline.

Priest members of the Society often use the letters SSC after their name to indicate their membership, they also often wear a small gold version of the society cross. There is a section of the society, the Pusey Guild for seminarians and approved candidates for training for the priesthood.

The Master-General of the Society  is Fr David Houlding SSC.

The Master of the Province of England and Scotland is Father Kit Dunkley SSC
